The ice road is playing it's usual antics open one day and closed the next.  A large crack in Bayfield formed on Saturday and the warm temps have us not sure what to expect on a daily basis.  Right now the ice road is officially closed but travel with snowmobiles and ATV's is fine.  More updates to come!

Winter is an interesting time when you have to travel to the island to work.  Each day we get up and have to determine how we are going to get there.  Last year I crossed 6 different ways, ferry boat, snowmobile, ATV, walked, skied and road the windsled.  Island Shores Realty is open year round to meet all of your real estate needs.  Check out our Facebook page as we add more pictures of our winter fun on Madeline!

Come and watch hundreds of skaters take on Madeline Island in the Apostle Islands Inline Marathon.  The skaters will start the race on Rice St at 8:30am on Saturday morning. There will be some traffic detours/changes for a few hours on the loop so keep an eye out. Hope to see you there!

We have finally turned the corner on the winter even though plenty of ice remains on the lake.  Each day is a different scene overlooking the water.  The summer locals are returning to open up their homes and there are new and different faces on the island.  The Pub is open and Cafe Seiche has a nice new facelift which includes a cozy bar and beautiful wood floors.  We are ready for summer!

After one of the best ice roads in years we had to say good bye but it is about time, we are looking for green grass now.  On Friday April 3rd the windsled started to run and the schedule is posted at, on the Madeline Island Chamber of Commerce site.  It is hard to say when the first ferry boat will run all reports say the ice is still very thick.

The residents of La Pointe rely on the ice road in the winter as a form of sanity being able to leave with no schedule and no fee.  This year's road so far is the best in a while.  Conditions can always change rapidly so it is suggested that if you want to take a drive over to call the Windsled Hotline at 715-747-5400 for updates.  There is also a van that runs daily.  The schedule below is the windsled/van schedule depending on what is running.
